[edit] Installation
XBMC is not available in the standard ubuntu 10.10 repositories. But no worries there's a PPA available for easy installation. Just follow these instructions.
sudo apt-get install python-software-properties pkg-config sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install xbmc xbmc-standalone sudo apt-get update
[edit] Start XBMC at boot
Just login to the desktop you installed (KDE, gnome, ...) and look for a setting like "Automatic Login". Enable this and then logout. In the login menu that appears select XBMC and login again. XBMC will start in full-screen mode. From the next on everytime you boot you're machine You'll end up with XBMC running.
[edit] XBMC remote
There are applications for several phone OS'es available that can act as a remote for XBMC. To use them just use "audio" as host/ip name and 8080 as port. Username and password are not required.
- Official XBMC remote is the best one for Android in my opinion.
