[edit] Info
This talk is meant to give people a solid grounding in how networks really work.
To that end I'll start with debunking common myths in networking, and tell you the real facts. By the time I'm done, you'll be a whole new networker!
This is not going to be a boring presentation that will make you fall asleep. It's going to be a bunch of whiteboards, with yours truly furiously drawing things on them, swearing all the while. I can guarantee you will learn something new. Here's the rough outline:
- The 7-layer burrito
- Why classful addressing will get you fired
- Routing is not forwarding
- Dynamic routing is not scary
- What makes the internet tick
Will not be discussed: IPv6, NAT and firewalls.
If all goes well, and people are interested, I'd like to follow up with a hands-on lab at a later date. However, you'll need to have been to this talk first :-)
We'll start at 14:00, and I expect it'll go on for about 3-4 hours, with lots of breaks for mate in between. Free for members of Whitespace, €5 (or more) donation will be asked of non-members. If you plan to come, please leave your name on the doodle:

See you there!
